Arquest Architecture has designed a premium, landscape-led development of three bespoke detached dwellings on the rural edge of Bramley, Hampshire. Following a successful Permission in Principle, the project introduces a carefully curated cluster of four-bedroom family homes designed to seamlessly integrate into the surrounding edge-of-settlement setting.

Drawing heavily on the traditional agricultural vernacular of the Hampshire countryside, the scheme embraces a barn-style aesthetic characterized by asymmetrical massing and 1.5 to 2-storey profiles. The material palette has been rigorously selected to harmonize with the local context, featuring heritage brown brickwork, cream-painted timber weatherboarding, and exposed oak framing. These tactile materials are complemented by traditional brown clay plain roofs and slimline, heritage-profile cream aluminium windows.

Internally, the dwellings are designed around spacious, open-plan living arrangements with double-height entrance halls that maximize natural light and frame views across the south-facing private gardens. The project is highly future-proofed; alongside robust sustainability measures, sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), and a fabric-first approach to energy efficiency, each home fully complies with Part M4(2) accessibility standards. Strategic ground-floor layouts include adaptable executive studies and generously proportioned washrooms, allowing for a seamless transition to single-storey, accessible living should occupants' needs change.

The scheme is deeply rooted in its locality, with the naming strategy celebrating local heritage. Calleva House pays homage to the nearby Roman town of Silchester; Becket Barnreferences a nationally significant 13th-century wall mural in the local St. James's Church; and Bromleah Grange derives from the historic Old English root word for the village of Bramley itself.
